March 3, 2026 – The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners received an update on quarterly sales tax revenues during its regular meeting this week, presented by Chief Financial Officer Nikki Simmons.
The update provided an overview of current sales tax performance, revenue trends, and year-to-date collections compared to prior years and budget projections.
County sales tax revenues continue to reflect stable economic activity across El Paso County. Sales and use tax collections for 2025 are ending the year approximately 2 percent higher than 2024, demonstrating steady year-over-year growth. Collections for the most recent quarter were consistent with financial forecasts, supporting ongoing county operations and essential public services.
“Sales tax revenue remains a key indicator of local economic health,” said Nikki Simmons, Chief Financial Officer for El Paso County. “We are continuing to see steady growth in collections, and we are closely monitoring trends to ensure responsible financial planning and long-term fiscal sustainability.”
El Paso County collects a voter-approved sales tax on retail sales of tangible personal property and certain services within the county. Use tax applies to taxable goods purchased outside the county but used, stored, or consumed within El Paso County. Together, sales and use tax revenues provide a significant source of funding for essential county services. El Paso County continues to maintain one of the lowest tax burdens per resident in the state.
Sales tax revenue supports a wide range of county services, including public safety, transportation infrastructure, parks, and community programs. Finance staff noted that while revenues remain steady, the County continues to monitor economic conditions, consumer spending patterns, and regional growth that may influence future collections.
The quarterly update is part of the County’s ongoing commitment to transparency and fiscal stewardship, providing commissioners and residents with regular insight into financial performance.
The Board of County Commissioners receives financial updates throughout the year to guide budget planning and ensure alignment with county priorities and service delivery needs.
