March 2, 2022 – El Paso County Board of County Commissioners stands united in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. As a symbol of solidarity, Centennial Hall will be illuminated in blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag, starting today.

“We stand against the tyranny and oppression of Vladimir Putin and his unprovoked attack on the sovereign country of Ukraine,” said Board Chair Stan VanderWerf. “I took a USO tour through Ukraine and I know they have a deep love for our shared principles of freedom and liberty. It breaks our hearts to see the senseless and unprovoked death and destruction in Ukraine. The Ukrainians respect and love our country and what we stand for, freedom. We stand with the freedom-loving people of Ukraine.”

“We are with them,” said Commissioner Longinos Gonzalez. “Our thoughts are with the people of Ukraine, and we pray for peace for that region of the world. May these events cause us to reflect and better appreciate the abundant blessings of peace, freedom, and prosperity we enjoy – and remind us not to take it for granted.”
