January 17, 2025 – El Paso County is currently preparing our roads and resources for this weekend’s upcoming winter weather.
The Department of Public Works has pre-treated many of the county’s high-priority roads, which will aid in their recovery once below-freezing temperatures pass. It’s important to note that pre-treatment does not mean the roads will not ice up, so continue to practice safe driving habits if you need to be on the road.
For more information about how Public Works prepares for winter weather, or to view the County’s Active Winter Weather Event Dashboard, please visit our Snow and Ice Control Program webpage.
If you do plan on traveling during the holiday weekend, the Colorado Department of Transportation provides useful tools for making decisions on travel. Their COtrip Traveler Information page shows current road conditions, traffic incidents, and weather warnings.
The Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management website houses detailed information about how to prepare for extreme cold weather. Residents can also find information on power outages and shelters throughout the region.
