December 4, 2023 El Paso County has scheduled a public information meeting to discuss the upcoming Rex Road and Meridian Road intersection improvements north of Falcon. The public is invited to join the county and project team to view design exhibits and a comprehensive presentation on the proposed enhancements. Time will be set aside for the public to ask questions about the project and construction timeline. For those unable to attend the meeting in person, the presentation will be accessible the following day, December 15, on the project website: https://bit.ly/3GsNKmx

Date:

Thursday, December 14

Time:

6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (Presentation at 6:15 p.m. and Q&A at 7 p.m.)

Location:

Falcon Fire Protection District Headquarters, Community Room

7030 Old Meridian Road, Peyton, CO 80831

The meeting is free and open to the public.

El Paso County Commissioner Carrie Geitner, representing District 2, will attend the public information meeting. Commissioner Geitner emphasizes the significance of this project, stating, “This project has been long overdue and is essential to the safety of the residents in Falcon. Unfortunately, we have seen accidents at this location, and we hope that this project will decrease the number of incidents at this intersection.”

The improvements consist of installing a traffic signal, improving sight distance, widening Meridian to four lanes, and adding turn lanes on Rex Rd with full-depth reconstruction of both Rex Rd and Meridian Rd stormwater improvements, and utility relocations.

The project carries an estimated cost of $8.5 million, covering construction and utility relocation expenses, which is sourced from El Paso County’s Road Impact Fee funds. These funds originate from fees assessed to property owners in unincorporated El Paso County upon receiving approval for new construction projects contributing to increased traffic. The fee initiative commenced on January 1, 2020, with the specific amount determined by the nature of the project, whether residential or commercial.

Construction is slated to commence in early 2024 and extend through late 2025
