April 7, 2021 – Fountain Creek Nature Center announces their calendar of events for May. The classes and programs are listed below by date. ONLINE REGISTRATION is available at https://communityservices.elpasoco.com/nature-centers/.
All programs require pre-registration. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, space is extremely limited and programs are subject to change. Please call the nature center or check website for current status.
Nature Adventures: Buds & Blooms
Thursdays, May 6 & 20, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Children ages 3-6, with an adult, will enjoy puppet shows or stories, crafts, hands-on activities, and discovery time on the trail. $3 per person including siblings and adults. Prepaid registration required.
2s & 3s Outdoors: Colors of Nature
Thursdays, May 13 & 27, 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Explore nature with your 2 or 3 year-old through interactive activities, a story, and a short hike. $3 per person including siblings and adults. Prepaid registration required.
Fountain Creek Family Fun Day
Saturday, May 1, scattered entry times 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Explore outdoor activity stations including dinosaur fossils, bug sweeps, kite making, pond critters, and crafts. Free slice of pizza from Papa Murphy’s included! $5 per person, $4 per member. FREE to active military families. Preregistration required for every person in attendance, regardless of age.
Nature’s Classroom Field Trip Series
Nature’s Classroom gives students the opportunity to explore the natural world through activities such as puppet shows, games, hikes, experimentation, and more! Students have fun, get outside, and learn Colorado State Learning Standards along the way. $4 per person including parents and siblings. Prepaid registration required. Saturday, May 22, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Birding Field Trip at Fountain Creek Regional Park
Become a more confident, more experienced birder over time by slowly learning new detail, tips, and species each month! In our May classroom and field trip, we will focus on wading birds like herons, egrets, cranes, and ibises. $15 per meeting. Prepaid registration required.
Fountain Creek Regional Park Eco Cache Rally
Saturday, May 22, 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
This is a new twist on Geocaching! You will receive a sheet with cache coordinates. Each Eco-Cache brings you to a natural place of interest which is the treasure! Pick up your completion prizes at the Nature Center afterwards. $5 per person, $4 per member. Prepaid registration required.
Jr. Bird Club
Saturday, May 29, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Nature lovers ages 8-17 are invited to practice their bird ID and nature observation skills in a social setting! In this meeting, we will learn about the tiny beauties that are warblers! Craft and a good bit of hiking included. $5 per child. Prepaid registration required.
Active Adults: Forest Bathing Walk
Thursday, May 29, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Take a gentle and mindful walk with ta certified Forest Therapy Guide. You’ll experience nature in a new and unexpected way with guided mindfulness invitations that engage your sense and bring a little Zen to your day. $20 per person, $15 per member. Prepaid registration required.
