May 16, 2023 – Residents in the Fountain area can now easily renew their vehicle registration close to home. The Clerk and Recorder’s Office announced a self-service kiosk is available inside the Safeway store at 6925 Mesa Ridge Parkway during store hours. A ribbon cutting at the new location scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. will officially introduce the kiosk at the Fountain Safeway.

“We are very gratified to offer southern El Paso County residents this service,” said Clerk Steve Schleiker. “They will enjoy the convenience of being able to renew their registration while shopping. We want to thank our vendor Intellectual Technology, Inc., Safeway management and the City of Fountain for their support of this new location.”

Fountain Mayor Sharon Thompson commented about this new capability in the area, saying “We are delighted to have this new service here in Fountain, and I want to thank our great partners in El Paso County and the Office of the Clerk and Recorder for working so hard to bring this kiosk to our community. We’ve received a lot feedback from residents excited to utilize this location to renew their vehicle registrations!”

That brings to 11 the total locations of the Colorado MVExpress kiosks: two at Safeway stores, five at King Soopers, three 24/7 kiosks and one at the Powers Branch. These vehicle registration renewal kiosks allow the Clerk’s Office to provide accessible, customer-centric motor vehicle services for residents.

It should be noted that active-duty military non-residents are not able to renew their registration at a kiosk. In order to be eligible for the specific ownership tax exemption allotted under Federal and State law they must provide certain documents. The kiosks are not programed to take in and review those required documents. The military personnel should visit one of the Clerk’s four motor vehicle offices to renew their registration.

Other services that may be done at the kiosks are:

  • Check your title status
  • Obtain a duplicate registration card
  • Obtain replacement tabs

To use a kiosk, simply type your license plate number on the touchscreen or scan your renewal postcard. Bring your renewal postcard or registration to access. Pay taxes and fees by check, credit or debit card. (Cash is not accepted at kiosks in King Soopers or Safeway stores but is accepted at the 24/7 and branch locations). You’ll receive your year tab and registration on the spot. The transaction is fast and easy. Instructions and voice prompts are available in Spanish and English.
