The Sheriff’s Office has received intelligence of another phone scam. The caller threatens the individual they are speaking with an arrest warrant for missed jury duty. If they don’t follow directions to clear up the warrant(s), they will be arrested. In these most recent cases, they are using the name of an actual employee of the Sheriff’s Office.
They are taking a significant amount of time to pressure the individuals into meeting to clear up these warrants. They use intimidation, consoling and threatening tactics stating the only way to clear up the warrant is to pay the bond at the county/federal jail through two pre-paid MoneyPak cards. Then the caller states they need to provide the numbers ahead of time to verify the funds.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens that our Office NEVER calls or sends texts to inform individuals they have an active warrant and NEVER asks individuals to make payments or arrangements to clear up a warrant. We will also NEVER call to ask for money, for any reason.
