Aerial map of US Highway 24 temporary single lane road closure

December 11, 2020 – Starting on December 15, El Paso County Department of Public Works’ contractor, HEI Civil, will conduct single lane closures on US 24 between Falcon Highway and New Meridian Road for asphalt pavement leveling. Closures will take place from 9 AM to 4 PM for approximately three days until December 17. Work will begin in the eastbound lane in the mornings and will switch to the westbound lane in the afternoons, with flaggers alternating traffic through a single open lane during working hours.

Motorists shall follow posted signage and flaggers on US 24, using caution when traveling through the coned work zone, and be prepared to stop when indicated by flaggers. There will be no speed or vehicle restrictions in connection to the single lane closure work zone.

Work on this project consists of connecting “New” Meridian to US 24 and extending it to Falcon Highway, creating a full movement signalized intersection at “New” Meridian and US 24, converting the full movement “Old” Meridian and US 24 intersection to right in/right out access only and constructing a Park-n-Ride facility south of US 24 adjacent to “New” Meridian and “Old” Meridian. Future updates will be provided as the project transitions through each phase.

Typical work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Limited weekend or night work is possible. All work is dependent on weather and resource availability. The construction schedule is subject to change. Project completion is anticipated in Summer 2021. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.

Drivers are reminded to reduce speeds and to watch for workers, equipment, signs and barricades. El Paso County wishes to thank drivers in advance for their cooperation. Cautious and attentive driving within the project area will ensure the safety and efficient completion of this project. Funding for this project is provided by Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA), the Federal Highway Association and El Paso County.
