September 10, 2024 – El Paso County Parks and Community Services, along with DHM Design, invites citizens to attend the Paint Mines Interpretive Park Master Plan 2nd open house, which will be held on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at Swink Hall at the El Paso County Fair and Events Center, 366 10th Street in Calhan. The open house is scheduled from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The public is invited to learn more about the project and voice opinions about the future of Paint Mines Interpretive Park, including recommended improvements, management, and maintenance.
Through a series of poster boards and a rolling slide show, project team members will highlight the unique archaeological and geological history of the Paint Mines and present site analysis maps and conceptual designs for the Master Plan. Following the open house, the project team will consider public and stakeholder input during the development of the Master Plan, which will be available for public review in fall 2024.
Review and adoption by the Park Advisory Board and Board of County Commissioners is anticipated in late 2024 / early 2025. Public input will assist El Paso County in conserving and preserving this wonderful County property, determining visitor needs, and solidifying recommendations for sustainable improvements and management practices for years to come.
