The El Paso County Environmental Division reported the success of the 2018 Great American Cleanup at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Thursday.

Event highlights, despite a couple inches of fresh snow, included 404 volunteers, 451 bags of trash collected and 2,100 pounds of debris removed from American the Beautiful Park.

“Even though we had a little bit of a weather challenge this year we certainly had an exciting time and a good turnout,” said Kathy Andrew, the County’s Environmental Division Manager. “This event has morphed into an exciting partnership between, municipalities, non-profit agencies, private companies and El Paso County.”

Held on Saturday, April 21, the event had 27 cleanup locations across the county. “We really did try to make an effort for people to come out to a site that was close to them so they can take pride in what they are doing and what they can see every single day,” Andrew said.
