July 18, 2025 – To be clear, El Paso County was never contacted by the Denver Post prior to the publication of this story. The portion of the article referencing El Paso County is blatantly false. While Jeff Small attempted to contact one Commissioner, no member of this Board directed Jeff Small to take any action regarding El Paso County’s removal from the sanctuary jurisdiction list. El Paso County did not request, receive, or process any payments related to this issue.
We are extremely disappointed in the Denver Post’s failure to verify basic facts before publication. This kind of careless reporting misleads the public and damages trust. We expect a public correction to be issued immediately.
We are grateful to Representatives Jeff Crank and Lauren Boebert for helping ensure El Paso County was correctly removed from the list of sanctuary jurisdictions.
