September 12, 2025 – The El Paso County Fountain Creek Nature Center has been awarded the Sustainability in Action Award at the 2025 Visit Colorado Springs Tourism Awards Celebration. The Award honors tourism and hospitality organizations that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship in the Pikes Peak Region.
Fountain Creek Nature Center was recognized for integrating sustainability into every aspect of its operations, educational programming, and guest experiences. From water-wise gardens and low-flow fixtures to interpretive exhibits on energy efficiency, recycling, and water conservation, the Fountain Creek Nature Center provides visitors with both practical examples and hands-on opportunities to practice sustainability.
Programs such as “Nature’s Ornaments,” which offer zero- and low-waste workshops, upcycled craft classes, and summer camps that encourage waste reduction, teach the community how small, everyday choices can contribute to a healthier environment. The center also upholds sustainability guidelines at all events, including a prohibition on helium balloons and confetti to protect wildlife, and offers recycling stations for staff and visitors alike.
“The Fountain Creek Nature Center has long been a leader in connecting people with our natural resources,” said Todd Marts, El Paso County Parks Executive Director. “This recognition highlights our commitment to sustainability and the Nature Center’s impact in inspiring residents and visitors to adopt environmentally responsible practices.”
By reducing water use, fostering public awareness, and modeling eco-friendly practices, Fountain Creek Nature Center continues to advance the mission of El Paso County Nature Centers: to connect people to their natural and cultural resources and inspire stewardship of the environment.
