More than 17,000 households in Colorado that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may have received a notice that they received zero benefits for the month of August due to an error in the state system. Additionally, separate notices were also sent that indicated households were receiving the maximum allotment allowed.
The two state notices may have caused confusion. Statewide, approximately 276,588 households received food assistance in August.
In El Paso County, more than 39,000 households were receiving food assistance in August as of Aug. 20. DHS staff are hearing from many clients regarding these notices.
SNAP clients can verify their balance, either by logging into their account at www.ebtEDGE.com, checking the bottom of their most recent receipt, or by calling EBT customer service at 1-888-328-2656 or 1-800-659-2656.
As reminder, households that applied in March for food benefits should be submitting recertification paperwork so there is no delay or break in September assistance.
