El Paso County administrative and elected administrative offices and affiliated agencies, including El Paso County Public Health, the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, CSU Extension, the offices of the 4th Judicial District Attorney, El Paso County Public Trustee and El Paso County Combined Courts will be closed Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, in observance of Labor Day.
The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s North Branch Office in Union Town Center (Union and Research Parkway) will be open for its regular Saturday hours (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) on Sept. 1, 2018. It is the only motor vehicle office in Colorado that offers regular Saturday hours.
According to the U.S. Labor Department, the first Monday in September was initially designated as Labor Day by a handful of local governments starting in 1884. Colorado lawmakers joined with several other states in recognizing Labor Day in 1887 and there were thirty states officially recognizing Labor Day by the time Congress declared it a national holiday on June 28, 1894.
El Paso County invites everyone to enjoy the 42nd annual hot air balloon event this Labor Day weekend at Colorado Springs’ Memorial Park. The Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off will feature mass balloon lift-offs scheduled Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 7 a.m. with spectacular Balloon Glows Saturday and Sunday evenings after dark, weather permitting. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, the Board of El Paso County Commissioners will transition from its summer schedule with all meetings on Tuesdays to its regular schedule with meetings on both Tuesday and Thursday every week.
The Board of County Commissioners meets in the Commissioners Hearing Room at Centennial Hall, 200 South Cascade Avenue in downtown Colorado Springs. Normal start time is 9 a.m.
