May 13, 2025 – The Colorado Disability Funding Committee, CDFC, has awarded the El Paso County Parks Department a grant of $30,730 for the Trailability Program.

The Trailability Program is currently at Bear Creek and Fountain Creek Nature Centers. The program offers “Terrain Hoppers” or off-road mobility vehicles that allow members of the El Paso County community and visiting guests with disabilities to experience trails previously inaccessible to them.

The CDFC grant award will be use to maintain our current vehicles, add modifications, and purchase a new Terrain Hopper for the upcoming Fox Run Nature Center!

“We are honored to receive this grant from the Colorado Disability Funding Committee, which will help us expand access to the outdoors for individuals with disabilities,” said Theresa Odello, Division Manager for Recreation & Cultural Services. “These enhancements to our Trailability Program will make nature more accessible and empowering for everyone in our community.”

The 1-4-mile trails takes participants through the varying foothills and wetlands habitats, accompanied by their friends and family as well as a Nature Center volunteer or staff member.
