December 19, 2025 – El Paso County is updating its public comment process for public meetings to ensure consistent procedures and improve meeting efficiency. As part of the update, El Paso County staff will no longer call participants for public comment. Multiple avenues for providing public input will remain available. This change will take effect on Jan. 13, 2025.

The call-in process was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure there was no disruption to public comment. Over time, calling members of the public has presented recurring technical challenges that have affected the quality and accessibility of meetings. Participation in the call-in format has also been low, with most residents choosing to engage in person or through written submissions, both of which remain available and encouraged.

As a result, we’ve strengthened our participation methods and are updating procedures to ensure reliable, accessible services for our community. These changes demonstrate the County’s commitment to efficient and transparent public meetings.

Residents are encouraged to share input in the following ways:

“El Paso County values the voices of our residents, and public input remains central to our work,” said Carrie Geitner, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “While we are moving away from call-in public comments as a standard option during meetings, residents still have several meaningful ways to connect, and their input remains an important part of the decisions we make for our community.”

Meetings will continue to be livestreamed and recorded on the County’s website and social media channels, ensuring residents can stay informed and engaged.
