January 6, 2021 – Fountain Creek Nature Center announces their calendar of events for February. The classes and programs are listed below by date. ONLINE REGISTRATION is available at https://communityservices.elpasoco.com/nature-centers/.

All programs require pre-registration. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, space is extremely limited and programs are subject to change. Please call the nature center (719-520-6745) or check website for current status.

Canvas & Cookies
Saturday, January 30, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Connect to nature through art! Parents may drop off kids ages 7 through 11; they will be guided to paint the Nature Center’s marsh at sunset, including Grandfather Cottonwood and Pikes Peak. Snacks and hike included. $30 per child. Prepaid reservations required.

Nature Adventures: Wildlife Games
Thursdays, February 4 & 18, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Children ages 3-6, with an adult, will enjoy puppet shows or stories, crafts, hands-on activities, and discovery time on the trail. $3 per person including siblings and adults. Prepaid registration required.

2s & 3s Outdoors: Bobcats & Friends
Thursdays, February 11 & 25, 10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Explore nature with your 2 or 3 year-old through interactive activities, a story, and a short hike. $3 per person including siblings and adults. Prepaid registration required.

Junior Birding Club
Saturday, February 6, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Club for children ages 8-17 to connect with the practice of birding, increase love for nature, and a desire to care for the environment. Club meets quarterly. Craft following. $5. Prepaid reservations required.

Canvas & Cookies
Saturday, February 13, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Parents may drop off their kids ages 7-11 for this crafty, fun class; they will be guided to create a beautiful sunset mountain scene with an optional Valentines twist! Snacks and hike included. $30 per child. Prepaid reservations required.

Nature’s Classroom Home Study: Discover Wetlands
Friday, February 19, 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Explore the five habitats at Fountain Creek Regional Park. Watch a short video, do a wetland metaphor activity, and go for a hike with a pond study. Geared towards grades 3-6. $4 per person. Prepaid reservations required.

Active Adults; An Afternoon of Native American Flute Music
Saturday, February 20, 3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Enjoy an afternoon of Native American flute music, both live and recorded. Hear flute origins legends, learn about their design and what makes them unique from other flute styles. Adults only. $5/member, $6/non-member. Prepaid reservations required.

Trolls in the Woods STEM Competition
Saturday, February 27, 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Build a troll with dead tree limbs from the Magic Woods in this imaginative STEAM activity! Teams of families or friends (4 or less per team) may bring natural rope or twine to use in construction. No power tools or other decorative items. Prizes awarded by judging panel afterwards! $10 per team. Prepaid reservations required.
