The El Paso County Parks & Community Services Department manages a multimillion-dollar park system that includes a wide variety of assets, such as trails, sports fields and sports courts, nature centers, irrigation systems, restrooms, and playgrounds. As the County’s population grows, it’s essential to ensure these spaces are well-maintained and can meet evolving recreational needs. The current park maintenance process requires an update to effectively manage these assets, minimize costs, and provide high-quality service.
The primary metric we are focusing on is the Parks’ Condition Index. This metric tracks the overall condition of park assets by systematically assessing their current state, including installation dates and wear. This comprehensive inventory will include all park facilities and amenities, helping the County to evaluate and address maintenance needs proactively.
By gathering detailed data on the condition of park assets, El Paso County will be able to improve resource allocation, budget forecasting, and strategic planning. The Comprehensive Asset Inventory and Condition Assessment will identify areas that need maintenance, repair, or expansion, helping to optimize the County’s parks management approach.
Key milestones in this project include contracting for the asset inventory and assessment, and investing in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). This system will streamline reporting and tracking, allowing maintenance teams to manage work orders efficiently and conduct preventive maintenance more effectively. By leveraging this data-driven approach, El Paso County will enhance the quality of its parks, ensuring they remain safe, vibrant, and accessible for residents now and in the future.
