March 7, 2022 – The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has contracted once again with Clear Ballot to conduct an additional audit of the 2021 Coordinated Election. ClearAudit is a respected post-election audit system that utilizes a digital process to verify elections results by recounting digital images and digitally tabulating another voting system’s ballots to provide a post-election audit.

ClearAudit’s independent comparison generated an analysis report which verified the results of the 2021 Coordinated Election. The final report substantiates the accuracy of elections conducted in El Paso County. Our county and state are renowned for secure, transparent elections that instill confidence and trust in our election voting system and results.

“Our office had this audit conducted for the 2020 General Election and now the 2021 Coordinated Election to provide a continuous level of transparency to voters. This audit is not required by state or federal law,” said Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman. “We undertake the ClearAudit process to provide voters a tool to understand how irreproachable the elections in Colorado are. This audit is in addition to the mandatory recount for Colorado Springs School District 11 Ballot Issue 4B and successful audits already conducted for the 2021 Election and further accentuates the trust and confidence in our state’s incomparable election system.”

El Paso County was the first in the state to conduct a ClearAudit post-election audit. Other Colorado Counties such as Mesa, La Plata and Montrose have now implemented this tool to provide further transparency for their voters. Clear Ballot is the only other voting system certified for use in the State of Colorado. At the national level, this audit system has been utilized in six states (South Carolina, New York, Florida, Maryland, Vermont, New Hampshire), and utilized in 138 counties throughout the nation.

The Clerk’s Office and the Canvass Board, which is comprised of appointees by both major parties, have already conducted the pre-election Public Logic and Accuracy Test and the forensic-based post-election Risk Limiting Audit. The Clerk’s Office passed each of these audits with excellent reports.
