A busy County road will be closed for a couple weeks, so crews can make some important road and drainage improvements.
El Paso County Public Works will be replacing two culverts along Elbert Road between Murphy and Hopper Roads which will require Elbert Road to be closed in two phases beginning Monday, October 8, 2018.
During the first phase a new 48-inch culvert will be installed across Elbert Road south of Sweet Road and during the second phase a new 36-inch culvert will be installed across Elbert Road south of Hopper Road.
Weather permitting, the project is expected to take about five days for each phase.
The first closure of Elbert Road between Sweet Road (east of Elbert Road) and Sweet Road (west of Elbert Road) will begin October 8 and is expected to reopen October 12. During this first phase, Sweet Road, Eastonville Road and Murphy Road will serve as the detour route. The second closure of Elbert Road between Hopper Road and Apex Ranch Road is planned to begin October 15 and is expected to reopen October 19. During the second phase, Evans Road, Eastonville Road, and Sweet Road will serve as the detour route.
Drivers who need to use the detour routes should plan for added travel time through this area. We ask that drivers reduce speeds and watch for workers, equipment, signs and barricades.
El Paso County road maintenance workers wish to thank drivers in advance for their cooperation. The full road closures will accelerate the safe and efficient completion of this project. Funding is provided through the El Paso County Road and Bridge fund.
