El Paso County is hosting a Community Picnic to mark the five-year anniversary of the Black Forest Fire.

The Picnic will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Black Forest Regional Park. Everyone is welcome.

The picnic will include live music from the Blue Steel Band, the United States Air Force Academy’s popular music ensemble, games, ice cream from Rizuto’s Ice Cream to include the return of the Black Forest flavor first introduced at the fire’s one-year anniversary event in 2014, various food trucks. The event will feature Jon Karroll from KRDO News Channel 13 as the Master of Ceremonies and speakers from El Paso County, Black Forest Together and the Black Forest community.

There will also be a display remembering the fire and the recovery that has happened in the Black Forest Community. There will also be booths with information about ongoing rebuilding and recovery efforts as well as interactive displays to include fire department apparatus, mitigation equipment and the El Paso-Teller 911 Authority’s interactive training trailer.

Lawn chairs, blankets, picnic games and other items are welcome.

Alcohol is not allowed in the Park.

Leashed pets are allowed, but Park staff asks that attendees to pick up after their pets.
