The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office joins the National Association of Secretaries of State and various other organizations in recognizing tomorrow, Tuesday, September 25, as National Voter Registration Day. The purpose of the day is to encourage people to register to vote or check their registration to ensure it is up to date.
“It is my hope that every legal, eligible person who wishes to vote exercises that right during this election cycle,” said Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman. “The first step to participate in our democratic republic is to register to vote. With that in mind, we celebrate National Voter Registration Day as a way to remind people to register to vote and prepare to vote in this year’s election.”
Either being registered to vote or having an up-to-date voter registration file is important in Colorado. Every active registered Colorado voter will receive a ballot in the mail in October, so having a current voter registration file is critical to receiving a ballot quickly. Any citizen needing to make a change to their registration file or register to vote after October 29 will have to visit a Voter Service and Polling Center before 7:00 p.m. on Election Day (November 6). Any citizen that makes a change to their registration or who has registered before October 29 will be sent a ballot in the mail.
Citizens may register to vote at any of the five Clerk and Recorder Offices located in El Paso County. People also may check their registration online at www.GoVoteColorado.com.
