El Paso County, CO, Monday, August 18, 2023 – Starting on August 28, the El Paso County Department of Public Works, will place construction of the Intersection Improvements Project at Fontaine Blvd. and Security/Widefield Blvd. on indefinite hold.

Installation of updated traffic signal equipment requires further furnishment of materials to complete safe connection of the equipment to the intersection and its associated railway crossing. County and Contractor staff have worked to complete Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements within the intersection to complete connection with the Fontaine Blvd. sidewalk system but are unable to proceed with completion of the Project until the timeline for these materials is determined.

Work at this intersection includes the removal of the existing signals and associated equipment, installation of updated traffic signal equipment, poles, mast arms, pedestrian push buttons, closed-circuit television, construction of new ADA compliant pedestrian facilities, signing and pavement markings and vehicle detection upgrades.

Pedestrians should plan for pedestrian detours throughout the hold as crosswalk closure(s) will be in place as shown in the attached exhibit. There will be no impact to Businesses or motorists as a result of this closure.
