June 14, 2021 – Fountain Creek Nature Center announces their calendar of events for July. The classes and programs are listed below by date. ONLINE REGISTRATION is available at https://communityservices.elpasoco.com/nature-centers/.

All programs require pre-registration. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, space is extremely limited and programs are subject to change. Please call the nature center or check website for current status.

Nature Adventures: Beautiful Butterflies

Thursday, July 15 and Friday, July 16, 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Children ages 3-6, with an adult, will enjoy puppet shows or stories, crafts, hands-on activities, and discovery time on the trail. $3 per person including siblings 2 and over and adults. Prepaid registration required.

2s & 3s Outdoors: Friendly Frogs

Thursday, July 8 and Friday, July 9, 9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

Explore nature with your 2 or 3 year-old through interactive activities, a story, and a short hike. $3 per person including siblings 2 and over and adults. Prepaid registration required.

Annual Firefly Celebration and Night Hike

Friday, July 9 and Saturday, July 10, 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Yes, we have spotted fireflies in the park over the years! Learn about the lives of fireflies, make a firefly craft, and hike with a naturalist to find these rare wonders of the park. $4 per member, $5 per nonmember. Prepaid registration required.

Eco-Caching in El Paso County Parks

NOW through Saturday, August 28

A fun twist on Geocaching, an Eco-Cache brings you to see a place of interest. The location itself is the treasure! Take a day or all summer to visit 8 El Paso County park locations. Participants will be sent coordinates and site-specific questions upon registration. Prizes awarded upon completion. $10 per person (for prize). Prepaid registration required.

Wood Cookie Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, July 24, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Wooden cookies commemorating the 50th anniversary of El Paso County Parks will be hidden around the nature trail. Find one and show it at the nature center for a Parks 50th anniversary water bottle! FREE, no reservations required, wood cookies limited.

Active Adults: Wisdom, Wood, and Wine

Saturday, July 17, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m..

Adults (21+) will make a unique piece of home décor using recycled wood and other creatively repurposed materials. Each piece will include a favorite quote from a famous naturalist. Supplies, step-by-step instructions, soft drinks, and light snack provided. Alcoholic drinks are BYOB. $25 per person, $20 per member. Prepaid registration required.

Home Food Preservation – Pickling

Saturday, July 31, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Canning is a great way to preserve the season’s bounty. In this class participants will learn about food safety, proper techniques, and tools for canning. You will receive a booklet with test recipes and a jar of your own canned product made in class. $10 per person. Prepaid registration required ONLINE.
