motor home and sceneryMemorial Day traffic is expected to be high with El Paso County citizens eagerly anticipating the start of summer. The Clerk and Recorder is reminding residents to make sure their vehicle registration is up to date and that recreational-type vehicles including campers and trailers must be registered.

“Memorial Day kicks off the summer season and people will be anxious to enjoy their outdoor recreation,” said Clerk Chuck Broerman. “It also is a very busy time for our Motor Vehicle offices. We want to be sure people get their registrations early and use our self-serve kiosks and online services when possible.”

Online services at mydmv.colorado.gov make registration and renewal convenient and easy. El Paso County has four Colorado MVExpress self-service kiosks at Motor Vehicle Branches. Our slogan is Skip the Line – Save Time! It takes just a few minutes to renew and immediately receive the year tab for the license plate, registration, and payment receipt. We have the first and only 24-hour kiosk in the state at the North Branch where residents can renew their registration any day, any time. The three interior kiosks are open during business hours at Citizens Service Center, Centennial Hall and the Powers/Southeast Branch.

If you require a more complex transaction citizens may stop by any of the County’s five Motor Vehicle Branches. The best time to visit if you do need assistance from a motor vehicle clerk is Tuesday through Thursday.

People who need to register a boat or ATV should contact Colorado Parks & Wildlife at (719) 227-5250 or visit the website Colorado Parks & Wildlife. These registrations are not done through the DMV.

In June, construction on Vermijo will begin near the Clerk’s downtown Motor Vehicle Branch at Centennial Hall. Due to limited parking during the construction process, customers are encouraged to visit a different location when their transaction cannot be done online.
